Day 45 - The Big Eye by AE Stagge

Well, it used to be. Many will remember this LasikPlus Vision Center building with the two-story-tall eye on the windows. I liked the eye. As a resident in the area I was on a mailing list and the company solicited feedback on whether to replace the eye when it began to deteriorate. I said yes, but I must have been in the minority.

Day 44 - Lifeblood by AE Stagge

Boring photo maybe, but interesting topic.

This water tower is on Kemper Road. We see these all over town, maybe use them as landmarks, but otherwise take them for granted. There is not much more important to us than H2O, as we need it to survive. And it's always there. Have you ever had your water service go down, due to a storm? Probably not.

I'd like to see more creative uses for these towers. There is one in the Eastgate area that houses a fire station in the bottom portion. That's creative.

Day 43 - Gravel, Drop and Roll by AE Stagge

Look closely at the wall of gravel that falls from the machine to the surface. Fascinating, to me at least. I'm always trying to learn about how things are made.

Not shown in the photo is a caravan of roller machines that push the gravel into the tar to set it in place.

I understand this type of road surface is economical for lesser-traveled roads. I've read the gravel surface is becoming more popular.

Day 42 - A Sticky Situation by AE Stagge

Continued from yesterday, this apparatus pours down a layer of tar, followed by a layer of gravel. I'm sure it's an efficient way to pave a road, but it sure looks messy. One more shot tomorrow.

Day 41 - Paving Highpoint by AE Stagge

Highpoint is a neighborhood at the north end of the township. Named as such because at one time it was alleged to be the highest point in Hamilton County. How can you say "at one time" you ask? Read the answer here.

While I was exploring for this project, I happened upon this contraption heading directly towards me. I backed off and let it pass. What an interesting set of machines. More tomorrow.

Day 40 - Interesting People by AE Stagge

After my post a few days ago about creativity, I decided to look through my recent photos again, and came up with this.

I asked this gentleman if I could take his picture with the full moon in the background. This was at the Festival in Sycamore which I covered on days 13-15 (within my 30 day rule). There was a row of bikes in the parking area and he was sitting on his while listening to the band play.

Day 39 - Reaching New Heights? by AE Stagge

Hard to tell due to the fog.

I really need to show some detail of this building. Last month was a night shot. This month, well.

Next month - a clean shot so we can compare the look during construction and after completion.

Formerly know as Kenwood Towne Place, this complex is now called the Kenwood Collection.

Day 38 - I Envy Creative People by AE Stagge

Ok, so this qualifies because I followed this car through Sycamore Township.

Speaking of creative, I really want to exercise my creativity on this project. It's starting to feel a bit boring, so what can I do.....

Day 36 - Another Car by AE Stagge

At the end of the back row was this 1969 Mercury Cyclone C.J. It seems you should wear a captains' hat to drive this boat. This is a loooong coupe. I'll bet the trunk is 6 feet deep.

Day 34 - Summer Car Show by AE Stagge

Here we are at the Sycamore Township Summer Car Show yesterday. There are a lot of nice rides here, old and new. This is the fourth year for this car show but the first time I've attended. I enjoyed chatting with some owners.

This is a "whole 'nother" world for me. I haven't really worked on cars since I replaced the clutch in my 1966 Saab. I had to remove the engine to get the clutch. Maybe that's why I don't work on cars anymore....

Day 33 - Black Tie by AE Stagge

During my project I plan to highlight some businesses in the township that I am familiar with. The Folchi family has operated in Kenwood for as long as I can remember. I've rented tuxes here and have always been very happy with the service.

Day 32 - Thomas Memorial by AE Stagge

At the South end of the township on Montgomery Road is the Thomas Justin Funeral Home. Unfortunately I have been here many times to say goodbye to departed friends and family. A beautiful old home nonetheless.

Day 31 - Saint Savior Parish by AE Stagge

Saint Savior Parish in the Rossmoyne neighborhood was announced in 1946 and the first mass was celebrated in this building in 1962. The Parish operated a grade school for more than 50 years but it was closed in 2002 due to declining enrollment.

We'll be back here in September for the Fall Festival. The first Saint Savior festival was held in 1947!

Day 30 - Sycamore Township (Former) by AE Stagge

Ok, so here I am cheating a bit. I saw this on my way home from Chaucer Drive. This home is in Reading on the Columbia Avenue hill. My brother used to own it and I remember him telling me the deed to the house listed Sycamore Township.

Remember the map from Day 1?

Day 27 - Willow Creek by AE Stagge

Enough of the negative aspect of the Chaucer Drive area. Today we look at Willow Creek.

It had been many years since I had visited Chaucer Drive. The run-down rental properties I remember have been converted to condos. Zillow estimates these sell in the 180's. This looks like a nice community and is a big improvement from years ago.
